Mid-Level Quant Analyst – Fundamentals Modelling
The Company
Nanook was founded in 2008 as a sub-advisor to a US commodity fund, built by senior energy professionals from utilities, energy merchants, and investment banks. In 2014, we launched our first fund focused on energy products driven by fundamental modelling of supply and demand. In 2023, following strong performance of systematic allocations, we launched a dedicated systematic fund focused on commodities.
Today, Nanook has grown to a 45-person team with ~$2bn AUM. Our edge lies in quantitative and technical excellence combined with rigorous, thoughtful analysis.
The Team
You’ll join a team of six quants who specialise in the quantitative modelling of fundamentals in the global Gas and Power markets. The team builds, maintains, and extends sophisticated models across a wide range of datasets — from simulating Norwegian gas outages, to forecasting hydro generation in Brazil, to modelling electricity transmission in Japan.
This is a technically challenging environment with broad exposure and significant commercial impact.
The Role
We are looking for a Quant Analyst with 2–3 years of relevant experience to strengthen our Quant Fundamentals team. This is a mid-level role that offers responsibility from day one: you will be expected to take ownership of models, contribute new ideas, and work closely with analysts and traders to deliver high-quality insights.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, proven experience working with data and models in a professional setting, and the drive to grow into a more senior contributor over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain quantitative models that capture fundamental drivers in global Gas and Power markets.
- Perform rigorous analysis of large, complex datasets to extract insights and improve forecasting accuracy.
- Work with fundamental analysts and traders to ensure models are commercially relevant and actionable.
- Validate and stress-test models, ensuring robustness for use in trading decisions.
- Contribute to best practices in data management, coding standards, and model deployment.
- Communicate complex results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Stay current with new modelling techniques and bring fresh ideas into the team.
